For the last decade I have had an allergy. I am allergic to exercise. My metabolism kept me from ever having a reaction until one day I found myself 30 and in "boot camp." It was there that I realized through motivation and inspiration the allergy had subsided into a foundation for healthy practice. In an attempt to change the outside I realized I wasn't a victim to what I ate or what size pants I wore. I was in charge of my body and could tell a difference from the inside out. Tammy taught me that although I was "allergic to exercise" I was able to learn and grow through fitness. She encouraged me without banter and inspired me with her smile. She is a strong and natural leader who taught me so much from correct form and discipline to determination and endurance. She pushed me in the areas I had not pushed myself before and for that I am so thankful. Tammy will not only help you to "boot camp" your body back in shape, she will teach you how to work out and feel alive...which will last you a lifetime.

Strength training not only increases muscular strength, but also increases bone density and the strength of surrounding connective tissue, thereby decreasing risk of injury as the body ages. Fit Camp participants will perform strength training exercises using resistance bands and their own body weight.
Cardiovascular exercise trains your heart to do more work with less effort. This increases your body's ability to get more work done before tiring and is the most efficient way to burn fat. Fit Camp participants will receive cardiovascular training by running modest distances (1 mile or less), performing fast paced foot drills and via traditional calisthenics.
Flexibility is the most often overlooked component of fitness. Benefits of flexibility training range from decreased risk of injury, chronic muscle tension and low back pain to improved posture and motor performance. Fit Camp participants will perform flexibility training through slow, controlled movements to loosen tight muscles and relieve potential soreness associated with exercise.
As all my friends and family know, I am a fitness fanatic. You may not be able to relate to that adjective right now, and I admit that I haven't always been able to either. I used to rely on my high metabolism to manage my weight, and always wondered why I was so chronically tired although I was only in my 20's. I ate what I wanted (a lot of junk) and did what I wanted (not much of anything).
As time passed and my metabolism started to take time off from its job of keeping me thin, I made the grueling decision to join a gym. Although I was seeing results from the elliptical machine and stair climber, I still dreaded my work outs, until I found the type of training that I enjoyed; group fitness classes. I attended my first group fitness class in December '07 and was instantly hooked. The instructor's passion for health and fitness was unavoidably contagious. She could inspire a room of 12+ people (who didn't necessarily care to be inspired) to not only make it through the work out but to enjoy the process. Her dedication planted a seed, and a passion began to grow inside of me.
I began reading fitness websites and magazines and started cleaning up my diet. I actually looked forward to my next work out! I learned that weight is not the sole factor of fitness and stopped obsessing over a number and started focusing on how I felt. A couple months later, the instructor mentioned that the club was looking to train some new instructors, and I jumped at the opportunity. I obtained my group fitness certification and have been growing and sharing my passion ever since.
While I still enjoy the indoor group fitness setting and teach several classes a week at local clubs, I am particularly inspired by the limitless possibilities of an outdoor setting. I have also found that people who may be intimidated by the traditional gym setting are more comfortable in an outdoor environment. I started Fit Camps as an alternative to traditional group fitness classes to help inspire more people toward a lifestyle of health and fitness. If you are lacking inspiration, I encourage you to give Fit Camp a chance. I look forward to working out with you!
